Why should your child ride the bus to school? For the answers visit  www.schoolbusfacts.com

Bus passes/punch cards must be out and visible to the driver when a student steps on to the bus.

IMPORTANT
Students who do not have a valid bus pass or punch card will not be allowed to ride a district bus, even the first week of school. Bus passes will be available at your child's school on Class Assignment Night or Orientation Night (The evening before school starts). Beginning the first day of school bus passes will be distributed to the students by the bus drivers.

In the Eureka Union School District we believe that we offer the safest, most economical and environmentally friendly way to transport students to school.  We take pride in the quality service that we have been able to provide. We also feel that it is a primary solution to mitigating the traffic congestion in our community, especially at our school sites.

The costs of providing transportation continue to grow beyond what the state provides in direct funding for the program.  Because of this, many school districts throughout the state have chosen to restrict routes or fully eliminate the service.  The current level of funding received from the State covers only about 40% of the costs of operating the program.  We continue to work to find ways to reduce costs.  We also work to generate additional revenue by applying for grants and providing service to other entities.

Currently we transport approximately 1,350 students.  We hope to increase the percentage of students who ride the school buses.  A school bus is the safest form of transportation for children.  Lowering the number of vehicles around our schools decreases the likelihood of an accident and decreases the amount of exhaust that the children are exposed to at school.

In July, 2009, the American School Bus Council conducted a parent survey concerning school buses. This survey reflects the correlation between school bus transportation, attendance and student achievement.  Two of the attachments at the bottom of this page are the press release from the American School Bus Council and the results of the parent survey conducted in July.
